The project was developed to create “hard empathy” by having students interview members of a “different” community in their native language in order to bridge cultural divides, gain perspective, stand in solidarity with others, and to advocate on another”s behalf. Students in Spanish 3 honors at Notre Dame High School in San Jose, CA interviewed workers from the Day Worker Center in Mountain View, CA and created this publication. Por el Mismo Sueño includes narratives in English and Spanish, comics portraying the workers as superheros, and a variety of digital content (original audio recordings, transcripts, and more). Our hope is that this project inspires you to develop a similar program at your own school creating stewards for the stories of others.
