Shortly after returning to Newbianna, Edgar is abducted to the Isle of View where a colony of eager people intend to worship him. After a particularly violent suicide, Edgar Rue wakes up as a floating, disembodied skull in a strange world. He quickly befriends a giant tentacle named Coolidge, and the two set out on a quest to find meaning to their new existence.
